The short answer: January to April is glorious, June to August is a fine summer season, and October to December is when the rain rolls in.

Koh Phangan has a split personality — the party beaches of the south-east and the sleepy coves and yoga bays of the north and west — but both run on the same Gulf calendar. Rain comes late here: October to December is the wet season, while January through April is dry, calm and sunny.
Like its neighbours Samui and Tao, Phangan makes an excellent European-summer destination. June to August is warm and mostly dry, with brief showers, and the island's beaches — from Bottle Beach to Thong Nai Pan — are at their barefoot best without high-season prices.

The classic months: settled seas, blue skies and easy longtail rides to beaches you cannot reach by road, like Bottle Beach. The island fills around each Full Moon Party and empties again a few days later — time your stay by the lunar calendar depending on which Phangan you want.
March and April are the hottest, with afternoons above 33°C. It is the best window for the jungle interior and the viewpoints — set out early, carry water, and reward yourself with a swim at Haad Yao before sunset.

May to September is Phangan's gentle secret: warm, mostly dry, lush and quiet between the monthly party surges. Showers are short, sunsets over the west coast at Ban Tai and Haad Yao are spectacular, and bungalow prices drop.
October to December brings the real rain, usually peaking in November. Seas roughen, some boat trips stop, and dirt roads to the remoter bays turn to mud — hire scooters with extra care. The Full Moon Party carries on regardless, dancing in ponchos if it must.

Yes — it happens every month on Haad Rin beach, whatever the weather. In November and December, expect the odd soaked edition and rougher boat rides from Samui.
Very much so. The north and west coasts — Haad Yao, Thong Nai Pan, Bottle Beach — are quiet, beautiful and family-friendly, and the island empties noticeably between full moons.
January to September, when the Gulf is calm. In the late-year monsoon, longtail trips to boat-only beaches like Bottle Beach can stop for days at a time.
