A short list of the sites we use ourselves when planning a trip to Ban Krut and the rest of the Gulf coast, plus the travel directories where this guide is listed. All links open external websites. Some of the writers below link back to this guide, which is how small independent sites find each other.
Getting there and around

Before you travel
Other writers on Ban Krut
Very few people write about this stretch of coast. These are the ones who do it well, in several languages.
- Thailand-Spezialisten – a Ban Krut guide written from Koh Samui, with temples, beaches and how to get there.
- Wo der Pfeffer wächst – the most thorough write-up we know of Chumphon, the province just south of here, by Heiko Meyer.
- Reisekröten – Theresa and Christopher spent time here and wrote the kind of honest, first-hand account of the village that is hard to find.
- Rejse til Thailand – Kim Ludvigsen has been writing about Thailand in Danish since 2011, and his Ban Krut page is one of very few in that language.
- Thaïlande et Asie – Romain Beuvart writes in French about the parts of Thailand that guidebooks skip, Ban Krut among them.
- Voyage de Miel – Clémentine and Nicolas travelled the whole Gulf coast, from Chumphon up through Hua Hin to Khao Sam Roi Yot, and wrote it up properly.
- Passion Thaïlande – a French account of Ban Krut and Bang Saphan from someone who has followed this coast for years.
- Love Chumphon – a French site given over entirely to Chumphon, the province immediately south of here.
- Tinas Pink Friday – a travel diary from someone who keeps coming back to Ban Krut, year after year.
- gooutbecrazy – Mike Strübing writes about Prachuap Khiri Khan as a family destination, the province seen from the road rather than from a beach chair.
- Thailandrundt – Carsten Gath has covered the western Gulf coast in Danish for years, including the quiet places most itineraries drive past.
- Le Voyage Autrement – a French piece on Bang Saphan, the district just south of Ban Krut, described as the Phuket of a quarter of a century ago.
- Spurenwechsler – a German slow-travel blog that reached Ban Krut by way of Damnoen Saduak and Cha-Am, and wrote it up honestly, rain and all.
- Thai Island Quest – David Luekens has covered Thailand’s coasts and islands for years; his Prachuap Khiri Khan coast dispatch takes in Ban Krut and the beaches around it.
Planning the rest of Thailand
Ban Krut is rarely the whole trip. These cover the places on either side of it.
- Samui Island Explorer – Michelle Singhon plans trips around Thailand from Koh Samui, and her Hua Hin page is the natural companion to ours: Hua Hin is two hours north of here on the same train line.
- Southern Thailand by train – the same Michelle, on the railway south of Surat Thani all the way to the Malaysian border. Our own train coverage stops at Chumphon and Surat Thani, so hers is where this line carries on.
- Apetyt na Podróż – a Polish guide to Hua Hin’s beaches, sights and weather, two train hours north of Ban Krut.
