Ban Krut Beach – 12 km of quiet
Ban Krut's beach is shaded by coconut and casuarina trees and runs along a beach road parallel to the shore. Originally the name comes from the kaffir lime trees (Ma Krut in Thai) that once grew here abundantly. The beach road stays peaceful — there are no jet skis, no beach vendors walking up and down, and no water sports operators setting up on the sand.
Two beaches divided by Thong Chai hill
The beach is actually made up of two sections: Ban Krut Nuea (north beach) and Ban Krut Tai (south beach). They are divided by the Thong Chai mountain (Khao Thong Chai), on top of which you'll find the temple complex Wat Thang Sai. The northern beach tends to be quieter with fewer resorts; the southern stretch near the village has more restaurants and accommodation.
Sea conditions & best time to visit
Ban Krut has a tropical savanna climate. The best swimming months are November to April, when the Gulf is calm and skies are clear. December and January are the coolest and most pleasant. May to October brings more rain and occasional rough seas, but also far fewer visitors and lower hotel prices.
The rainiest month is October — the only month when a visit is not particularly recommended. Even during the monsoon, rainfall here is fairly moderate compared to the west coast of Thailand, with mostly isolated episodes rather than continuous downpours.
Beach tips & etiquette
- Wear at least a T-shirt and shorts when walking through the village or shops.
- Use reef-safe sunscreen and carry your rubbish out.
- Street dogs are common on the beach — most are harmless but give them space.
- You will find a few sun loungers at some resorts. Beyond that, bring your own shade.
- Respect local people fishing, exercising or doing morning ceremonies on the beach.
From the railway station
Ban Krut's train station is conveniently located right in the town centre — about 1 km from the beach. Motorcycle taxis meet arriving trains and can take you directly to your hotel. The beach road itself runs parallel to the shoreline for the full length of both sections.
