November to April, and that is not a preference — it is close to a rule. Outside those months most of the island is shut.

Most Thai islands quieten down in the monsoon. Koh Lipe closes. From roughly mid-May to mid-October the majority of its resorts, restaurants and dive shops shut for the season, and the ferry service from the mainland is cut back sharply or stops altogether.

The reason is simple: Lipe is small, far south, and everything on it comes by boat across open water. When the south-west monsoon puts swell into that crossing, the supply line and the guests both stop. If you are planning a trip outside November to April, check that both your hotel and a boat actually exist on your dates.

November is when the island wakes up: everything reopens, the sea flattens, and prices sit below the peak. December to February is the height of the season — the most reliable weather, the clearest water, and rooms that need booking well ahead over Christmas and New Year.
March and April stay dry and calm but get properly hot, with April the hottest month of the year. Late April is the last good window before the island starts winding down again, and it is often the best value of the whole season.

Koh Lipe's draw is the water. It sits inside a national marine park with reef close enough to swim to from the sand, and in the dry months the visibility is as good as anywhere in Thailand. Day trips to the surrounding islands run every morning and the sea is flat enough for the small boats.
That is exactly what the monsoon takes away. Even at the edges of the season, in May or October, the snorkelling trips become weather-dependent and the crossing from Pak Bara can be uncomfortable. The narrow season is the price of a small island in clear water.

| January | Dry, clear and calm — peak season |
| February | The best month for water clarity, busy and dear |
| March | Hot and dry, excellent snorkelling, still busy |
| April | Hottest month, Songkran mid-month, season ending |
| May | The island starts closing, boats reduced |
| June | Monsoon, most places shut |
| July | Closed season, very few boats |
| August | Closed season, rough crossing |
| September | The quietest month — almost nothing open |
| October | The island starts reopening late in the month |
| November | Everything open again, calm sea — best value |
| December | Dry and clear, prices climb towards Christmas |
November to April. Within that, November and late April give the same calm sea as the peak at noticeably lower prices.
Largely, yes. From about mid-May to mid-October most resorts and restaurants shut and the ferry service is cut right back — more completely than on any other Thai island.
By speedboat or ferry from Pak Bara pier in Satun province, about an hour and a half across open water. There are also seasonal boats from Langkawi in Malaysia.
It is the main reason to come. The island sits inside a national marine park with reef close to shore, and visibility is at its best from December to March.
