Scooter & car rental

One of the nicest ways to experience Ban Krut is with your own wheels. Roads are relatively quiet, distances are short and there are lots of small side roads and viewpoints to discover. That said, you should only rent a scooter or car if you are confident riding or driving and properly licensed.

Scooter rental

Scooters are the most common way to get around Ban Krut. Many guesthouses and small local agencies rent them by the day or week. Daily prices are usually cheaper than in big resort towns, but the basics are the same: you get a small automatic scooter, at least one helmet and pay for petrol yourself at local stations.

Before accepting a scooter, walk around it carefully and take photos or video of any existing scratches or damage. Check that brakes, lights, indicators and the horn work properly.

Car rental & private drivers

It's less common to rent a car directly in Ban Krut itself; most people pick one up in Bangkok, Hua Hin or another large town and then include Ban Krut as part of a longer road trip. Another option is to arrange private transfers between Ban Krut and transport hubs such as Chumphon, Prachuap Khiri Khan or various ferry piers.

Safety

Staying safe on the road

  • Thailand drives on the left-hand side – keep this in mind at all times.
  • Always wear a helmet on scooters and seatbelts in cars, even on short trips.
  • Avoid riding in heavy rain or at night if you don't know the roads well.
  • Watch out for sand on corners and animals crossing the road.
  • Check that your travel insurance really covers scooter rental and medical care.
If you don't feel comfortable riding yourself, ask about local drivers or shared transport instead. There is no shame in choosing the safer option when you're far from home.
