12 kilometres of quiet shore

Ban Krut's beach is long, relaxed and still relatively undeveloped. There are sections with resorts and restaurants, but also broad stretches of almost empty sand where you might only see a few local fishermen and the occasional dog trotting along the waterline.

Long quiet Thai beach

Layout of the beach

The main bay curves gently for many kilometres. The central area near the train station road is where you find the densest cluster of accommodation and restaurants. Towards the north, the beach rises into Thong Chai hill and the temple complex. Southwards, the beach becomes quieter and more open with fewer buildings behind the trees.

Seasons & sea conditions

Conditions change from year to year, but in general the Gulf of Thailand around Ban Krut is calmer between roughly November and April. During this time you can often swim comfortably close to shore and enjoy glassy early-morning seas. From about May to October, waves and wind can pick up and there are more rainy spells.

There are no lifeguards, so use common sense: avoid swimming in rough water, stay near other people, and keep a very close eye on children in the sea.

Practical

Beach tips & etiquette

  • Wear at least a T-shirt and shorts when walking through the village or going into shops.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen and avoid leaving plastic bottles or bags on the sand.
  • Dogs are common on the beach; most are relaxed but give them space.
  • If you want shade, look for trees or bring a light umbrella rather than relying on sunbeds.
  • Respect local people fishing, exercising or doing ceremonies at the beach.
If Ban Krut is one of your first Thai beaches, you may be surprised how quiet it feels — even in high season there is a lot of room for everyone.
