In-depth overview of what and how people eat in Ban Krut, Thailand.
Eating is a big part of any Thai trip, and Ban Krut is no exception. Here it's less about long tasting menus and more about fresh seafood, simple rice dishes, noodle soups and tropical fruit enjoyed slowly in the shade.
Most restaurants along the beach and in the village offer a familiar mix of Thai classics: fried rice, pad thai, stir-fried basil with meat or tofu, curries such as green and red curry, spicy salads and a wide range of seafood cooked with garlic, pepper, lime and chilli.
In the evening, look for small stalls near the market and in side streets: grilled chicken, sticky rice, papaya salad, roti pancakes, smoothies and plastic bags filled with ready-made curries to take back to your room. These are often very good value.
Ban Krut is not a dedicated vegetarian hub, but it is possible to eat meat-free here. Some menus clearly mark vegetarian dishes, especially at well-known cafés. In other places you can ask for "no meat" and request tofu or extra vegetables instead.
