Train, bus, car and minivan options for reaching Ban Krut, plus practical planning tips.
Ban Krut sits on Thailand's Southern Railway Line and just off the Asian Highway 2 (AH2) that connects Bangkok with Chumphon and the south. There is no nearby airport, so you'll arrive by train, long-distance bus, minivan or car.
Many travellers choose the train. Ban Krut has its own small station on the Southern Line and several trains a day stop here. From Bangkok the ride takes around seven hours, with additional departures from Hua Hin and other stations further south or north.
Buses and minivans leave Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) and head down the coast via Prachuap Khiri Khan and Chumphon. Some services can drop you close to Ban Krut, from where you continue by local songthaew, motorbike taxi or pre-arranged pickup from your hotel.
If you're on a road trip, follow the AH2 south from Bangkok and turn off towards the coast a little north of Ban Krut. The final stretch runs through quiet countryside before reaching the beach road. Many people break the journey in Hua Hin or Prachuap Khiri Khan on the way.
